Besides livestock, The Stamford Museum and Nature Center also exhibits art. Who knew? The current show displays roughly 25 sculptures by artist Steve Gerberich. Made out of recycled objects — anything from car parts to old toys — Gerberich’s creations come to life with the touch of a button. Undoubtedly, I touched every one. Sure, the work is light-hearted — even the title of this piece, “The Metalphores,” suggests play — but the interaction did not leave me with the feeling of a low-brow childrens’ play. Ironically, the life-like gadgets seemed cynical of waste, planned obsolescence, and a culture that is based on consumption. Find out more here.
